The Centre for Business Prosperity are pleased to announce the third session of its Reading Club on Global Strategy that will take place on Wednesday 22 February 2023, 10:30-12:00 noon.
This is a new series of reading sessions on topics related to global strategy – trade, global value chains, technology upgrading, implications on the national and regional economy. We will join hands with colleagues in Loughborough and Birmingham University for some of the sessions
We choose 1-2 papers for each session and circulate them ahead of the event. Each paper is led by a person, who is expected to prepare a short presentation (20 minutes). The content should cover what the paper is about – motivation, contribution, novelty, data and methods, findings; and importantly the own views about the paper – what’s great, limitations, what we can do, etc. This is then followed by a discussion about it.
The papers that we will focus upon this time will be ‘New Measurement of Export Participation in U.S. Manufacturing‘ by authors, Christoph Boehm, Aaron B. Flaaen & Nitya Pandalai-Nayar and ‘Does “Made in China 2025” Work for China? Evidence from Chinese Listed Firms’ by authors Lee G. Branstetter & Guangwei Li. The session will be led by Professor Rob Elliott (University of Birmingham) followed by a discussion among readers.
You are expected to read the paper before attending to have meaningful discussions.
