Who are we

The Centre for Business Prosperity (CBP) is operated by Aston Business School (ABS).

It is a network of researchers and experts across national and international networks, with core strengths in the areas of productivity, international trade and business, skills, regional economic growth, and practice-oriented enhancement of for-profit and also social enterprise performance. The guiding principle of CBP research is evidence-based. We rely on accessible and quality data that allows us to conduct rigorous analysis. Our knowledge, expertise and experience in handling relevant data ensures the competence and timeliness of the research.

How we work

CBP was established in January 2018 and is structured to research on the two core themes: Trade, Productivity and Skills in the UK.

We consider them independent yet related, both posing a set of questions from several important aspects but all aiming to answer one question: how to improve productive performance?

We are networks of experts and researchers in these fields across national and international networks, with complementary knowledge and skills, while all sharing similar passion of finding the answers to the key question.

Each research team, led by a lead research fellow, is responsible for delivering project outputs in the highest quality possible and maximising the potential impacts through working with the funder and users of the research, with contributions of the research team and the oversight of the Centre Director.  Our experts from academia, industry and the public sector on the advisory board regularly bring insights and advice into our research.

We foster dynamic collaborations across the national and international universities and organisations, with academic and practitioner experts. Our fundamental aims are to promote interdisciplinarity and frontier thinking and reach out to a wider community, in addition to holding on to the value of rigorous research. To facilitate this, we convene regular forums and events in all sizes to bring people together in the knowledge-sharing and lively debates. We also welcome research visits and offer seed-corn funding opportunities for new projects. As always, we are very keen on working with early career researchers and supervising PhD students.
